About the name
SerDes, short for serializer/deserializer, is the circuit that turns the parallel data inside a chip into a fast serial stream for a link, and back again at the other end. Processors, network switches and AI accelerators rely on SerDes lanes to move data between chips, boards and racks. Serdes.si is that term itself, in five letters on the short .si extension.
The name fits companies that design SerDes IP and PHY blocks, chip start-ups working on high-speed and optical I/O, design-service firms and test-equipment makers. Because engineers use the word daily, the name needs no explanation to its audience, and its short length suits a product line, a tool or a technical community.
Three ways to use it
- A company licensing SerDes IP or PHY designs to chipmakers.
- A test and characterisation tool for high-speed links.
- A technical community or newsletter about chip-to-chip connectivity.
